The Keystone Exams are state-mandated, standards-based assessments used to measure student proficiency in core academic subjects. The Keystone Exams serve as end-of-course assessments for high schoolers in Algebra I, Biology, and Literature. Some middle school students complete the Algebra I Keystone Exam at the end of each school year if they complete an Algebra I course at the middle school.
Public schools utilize these results to determine if students have met state academic standards, to identify those in need of supplemental support, and to satisfy federal accountability requirements. Furthermore, for high school students, the Keystone Exams (or an approved alternative pathway) serve as a statewide requirement for graduation eligibility.
