There are numerous coding resources available to give students an opportunity to explore a possible interest in creativity with coding.  This blog post showcases some of those tools.
Tynker for Schools is a resources that allows a teacher to create an account and add students to the account.  There are 6 free lessons to introduce students to coding on this site.  Click here to sign up and explore.

Code.org  is a free resource that has curriculum already created and aligned to standards.  This is a turnkey curriculum in that it's written and ready to use.  We have used this site with students as young as Kindergarten, but it also has opportunities for students up to grade 12 to learn about coding and programming.  Click her to sign up and explore.

Scratch is a free resource. With Scratch, you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations — and share your creations with others in the online community…Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century. Click here to check it out.

PETE & C 2018

Each year the state technology conference is in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  This year it was another excellent conference.  There was an endless list of opportunities to talk to teachers about how they were using technology in their classrooms and to listen to speakers (mostly teachers, tech coaches and some tech directors) about the ways in which they are integrating technology in their classrooms and districts.  I am proud to say that we had a fellow Colonial among the presenters this year.  Autumn Zaminski, a 4th grade teacher at CVIS did a teacher poster session about coding and she also collaborated with fellow teachers from other districts to present a workshop on variety of web 2.0 tools that are available to elementary teachers.  The great thing about Autumn's presentation was that the majority of the tools presented were tools that did not require students to set up accounts, only the teacher accounts had to be created and students could join, plus all were "FREE".  Congratulations to Autumn on a job well done at this years PETE & C.

Are you interested is a chance to attend PETE & C for 2019?  Every teacher who presents at this years R2R Tech Camp will receive a ticket for each presentation they give.  One lucky winner will be drawn out to attend PETE & C 2019.  Presenter registration is now open.  Click here to submit your request to give a presentation at our R2R Tech Camp.

EdCamp York coming March 24th

I am sharing information about EdCamp York being held on Saturday, March 24th at Dallastown Area Intermediate School. The event will run from 9 am to 1 pm. Doors will open at 8:15 for check-in and breakfast.  EdCamps are great "free" opportunities to learn something you can take right back to your classroom.  It's also a great opportunity to network with fellow educators in other districts.  Lastly, there will be door prizes.  I have included a flyer.

R2R Tech Camp Presentations - If you interested in presenting at R2R Tech Camp, the registration link is provided below.

I am now recruiting presenters for our R2R Tech Camp which will be held May 30, 31, and June 1.  I am excited about the interest that has been expressed already by those who want to present.  This is a great opportunity to have our own teachers present workshops showcasing what they are doing with technology.  I am also excited because for each workshop that a person presents they will get a ticket to put their name into a drawing.  I will be selecting one presenter to attend next year's PETE & C State Tech Conference held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

If you are interested in presenting at the R2R Camp please complete the survey by clicking on the link that follows. https://goo.gl/forms/ltkREspTyfY5Qnc62

I will try to give you the date that you prefer for your workshop presentation based on your presentation registration, but obviously I can't offer them all on day one.  I would like to have all workshop presentation registrations by Friday, March 16, 2018 at the end of the day.  If you have a cool lesson using technology that you would like to share please register so others can benefit from your knowledge.  If you are too nervous to present alone you can co-present with a fellow teacher who can share in the presentation, both of you will receive a ticket for the drawing.

Congratulations Gail!

Gail Anderson is a Health/PE teacher at CVIS.  This year she is teaching all health classes.  Gail is using Nearpod regularly  with her classes.  She used more sessions in the last two months then any other user in the district.  Kudos to Gail for forging ahead and working to integrate Nearpod into her lessons! Gail received this t-shirt as her congratulations!

A New Wonderful Wheel on SAMR and Bloom's Digital Taxonomy

Thank you Kim Johnston-Smith for pointing out this new wheel from a recent Ed Technology and Mobile Learning blog.  It shows very clearly the correlation between Bloom's Taxonomy and SAMR.  I have also include the links to each of the tools listed on the wheel.  In looking over the tools I was pleasantly surprised to see many that teachers at CVSD are already using.
