Schoology Tip Regarding Linking of Courses
Linking Classes (thanks to Mr. Skimski for the problem and the fix.)
Problem 1: I have my three classes linked. When I score a discussion post for 7700/11 class all is well and the score syncs to skyward. However, when I score a discussion post for my 7700/10 class neither the score of assignment sync to skyward. My 7700/09 class is still an unknown as they have not yet completed the discussion assignment.
Solution: When linking courses you have to go into each individual class (even after linking) and set the categories for each individual class. After that is done, all will be good.
Reusing Rubrics (reusing resources with some editing)
Problem 2: A teacher created a number of rubrics and wanted to reuse the same rubric but make some changes to it. She tried to go into the course in which she wanted to add the rubric and then make the changes in the course after she added the rubric resource. The problem was that she was not able to do this without changing that rubric across all previous uses of it.
Solution: You can reuse rubrics that have previously been placed in other courses. Go to your Schoology Resources and find the rubric. Click on the little widget to the right of the Rubric and choose make a copy of the rubric. It will copy the rubric into your resources and you can then click on the copy and edit it any way you would like, even change the title. This edited version can be moved to whatever course(s) you would like without impacting any previous uses of the original rubric. Jeanne Plotica said she would be glad to show you what it looks like if you want. I can also come out to help you if you have this problem.
FYI - this will work for any type of resource that you want to reuse but need to edit in some way from the previous use.
Log-In Issues
Problem 3: My high school or middle school student cannot log into the schools Enterprise Schoology with their network user name and password.
Solution: Most often it is due to the student having a free Schoology account before entering middle or high school in which they used their Google gmail. You will know this is the problem if the student gets a message that prompts "this email is already in use". When they get this the student should:
1. go to www.schoology.com and put in their school email and
2. choose forgot password (if they can't remember it).
3. get a password reset in their school email
4. after password is changed log into the free account >
5. click the dropdown at their name> choose settings and
6. delete their school email and put in another one or even a fake one if they won't need the basic account any longer.
7. Save the change
8. Go to the district website and now use the network login and your password
9. Click the dropdown next to their account name
10. Add the correct email into the account settings and your account should be fixed.
If this does not fix the issue or if the prompt above is now what they are getting send Dr. Sipe the student's login information, password and email.to sipek@cvcolonials.org. Students may also email me directly.
Schoology Support - If you have a Schoology Enterprise user problem the first contact should be me, Dr. Sipe in District Office. Often I can resolve it in-house or get in touch with Schoology to resolve issues. If it is something I can't resolve such as an issue related to the active directory I will contact Tech and move it on to them via a ticket or if I know right away after seeing what your issue is that it will be a Tech related issue, I will let you know so you can submit the ticket. I have been able to resolve most issues and this helps keep the tech tickets down. My email is sipek@cvcolonials.org .
If you are a Schoology basic (free) user, I can help to resolve some issues with the basic version but I don't have the administrative access to the accounts like I do for the Enterprise version, but I will gladly try to resolve issues for you through Schoology support.
Here is a link to a Google document where all of the Schoology Q & A issues will be stored. Click Here.
